Vital work to stabilise a railway cutting in Hove and prevent delays caused by landslips will be taking place between Saturday 18 September 2021 and Friday 01 October 2021.

The work follows a number of landslips in recent years which caused significant delays to passengers.

To stabilise the cutting and protect the railway from rockfall we will be installing 1012 rock bolts into ground during the blockade. These bolts will hold rock netting in place that will catch loose rocks and in the areas where required hold the ground together. We are working with the local community to look to replanting options to offset the vegetation removed by the works.

To make the most of the access and give passengers additional benefits will use the time when lines are closed to undertake:

  • Repair work at Wilbury Road Bridge to strengthen the structure
  • Upgrades to track circuits, the part of the signalling system which tell signallers where trains are, between Brighton and Hove
  • Wheel timber renewals at Shoreham Viaduct to improve the reliability of the train services.
